Why do you give to end factory farming?

We originally became involved in agricultural and food systems reform because of our compassion for non-human animals and desire to end the horrific practice of factory farming. We ramped up our giving when in our journey to ease animal suffering, we discovered that ending factory farming is a cornerstone issue.

Ending industrial animal agriculture could cut greenhouse gases by more than 20 percent, lower healthcare costs, help global food security by feeding grain to humans rather than livestock, use less water and stop water degradation from waste management practices which contaminate aquifers, rivers and oceans. It would decrease antibiotic resistance caused by the daily feeding of antibiotics to animals, and stop the deforestation happening in the quest for farmland.

If we can abolish this unnecessary and barbaric system of cruelty, the effects will go so much further than helping farmed animals (which is in itself already a very worthy cause!).

As members, we’ve had the opportunity to build connections and collaborate on the frontlines of food systems reform.

How do you benefit from FAF membership?

We aim to be as effective as possible with our time and philanthropic dollars, and FAF helps in this endeavor. We decided to join FAF because we believe we can do more together as a collaborative movement than on our own. As members, we’ve had the opportunity to build connections with very smart, strategic, great people, collaborate on the frontlines of food systems reform, and stay up-to-date on key developments in the movement.
