The Plant-based EU Policy (PEP) Fund
The Plant-Based EU Policy Fund (PEP Fund) is raising and deploying $4 million from climate, food systems, and animal donors to accelerate a plant-based transition in Europe.
A plant-based food system transformation can meet the demand for healthy, climate-friendly foods while decreasing GHG emissions and reliance on farmed animals.
If successful, we expect national and EU plant-based action plans and funds will normalize government plant-based investments, increase the plant-based market share, and, ultimately, decrease reliance on farmed animals while mitigating carbon emissions.
The Strategy
The PEP Fund leverages Denmark’s leadership in plant-based policy and funding, as well as its 2025 H2 leadership on the EU Council, to pass national and EU-level plant-based action plans and funds up to €2 billion. Throughout 2025—2027, an expert advisory committee will recommend strategic fund distribution to coordinated NGOs across the EU.
These NGOs will advance stakeholder alignment and negotiations for national and EU-level plant-based action plans and funds, replicating the success of Denmark’s Action Plan for Plant-Based Foods and Plant-Based Food Grant while localizing the plans and funds towards each country’s context.
The Fund
Farmed Animal Funders currently seeks aligned donors enthusiastic about strategic plant-based food system transformation policy in Europe. We are disbursing the first round of funds in January 2025 and have room for additional funding. For more information or to pledge funding ranging from $25k to $1M+, please reach out to Zoë Sigle, Director of Programs at Farmed Animal Funders, at pep-fund@farmedanimalfunders.org.
